Today at work I sat stunned. A young man of 27 years committed suicide and I worked with him. He was only with us for a few short weeks and quit but I knew him, I saw his eyes, heard his words and yet knew nothing about him and now gone. Like the infamous words, he was gone like a vapor.
Questions swirled in my mind but the most obvious one…why? What was so terrible, what had him so distraught he felt that this was his only way out? Why does anyone think of such a horrible, lonely end?
Suicide: the act or instance of taking one’s own life voluntarily and intentionally: the self-inflicted ruin of one’s own prospects or interests.
The loneliness, the desperation, the voices in one’s head…
“No one cares.”
“You’ll be better off.”
“They’ll be better off…without you.”
Lies, all lies of manipulating demons! Demons want us to worship them. That is why they rebelled against God in the first place. They long to be praised themselves. So they must use manipulation and lies to get us to do so. And as long as we are doing whatever it is they want us to do, they are being worshiped and they are getting their way.
Demon is a strong word, a word we only hear in the hype of TV folklore…as Buffy kicks and slays another vampire. But they are real, very real and not in the Buffy kind of way. I must be crazy to think they exist, right? Do you ever hear words or ideas and not know where it comes from? During the day or when you are alone…do you hear them now? Telling you to stop reading and that I’m the liar, that my words, God’s words are those of a ranting church goer.
I’ve heard my husband say many times. “If I’m right about God and Heaven, what do I have to lose? If you’re wrong in not believing in God and Heaven, what do you have to lose?”
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12
Do not be deceived and do not be frightened because these evil things did not create you, God did. And He created you for a reason because of love and He asks in return that you love Him back.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Hope: a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen, a feeling of trust, aspiration, desire, expectation, ambition, goal, plan, design.
He designed you.
“For you created my inmost being: you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart….” Jeremiah 1:5
Do not be fooled, His love is real, His love for you is real. Listen to the voice that is calm, clear and full of hope. The one telling you not to give your own life but that He already gave His life for you…so that you may live.
“For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow…not even the powers of hell can separate us from the love of God.” Romans 8:38
